Adult Housing

Housing Services

Too often, mental illness and homelessness go hand-in-hand. About 40 percent of homeless adults have a diagnosable mental illness. At Navos, we provide affordable housing and support services to people living with mental illness through two community housing programs: PACT and ICSRP. And through our Independence Bridge program, we provide housing and support to young adults making the transition from foster care through our Independence Bridge program.

PACT

PACT—short for Program of Assertive Community Treatment—is an award-winning, evidence-based program that enables homeless clients coming off the streets or out of the hospital to live independently in one of 80 apartments in King County. Teams consisting of psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, therapists, vocational counselors and others meet frequently with clients to provide treatment and support in the safety and comfort of their homes. Clients receive the same daily care they’d receive in a hospital, with the aim of helping them manage their symptoms and build an independent life.

In addition to mental health care, PACT clients receive medical and dental care through Seattle/King County Public Health. They have the option of pursuing family therapy with their family of origin. Educational opportunities enable them to finish their GED or go back to college, and employment support helps them find full- or part-time work

Our PACT program offers residents culturally specific choices as they pertain to spirituality, religion, grocery shopping, hobbies and more. We also help clients who need it find a support community made up of others who share their culture of choice.

ICSRP

ICSRP, which stands for Intensive Community Support and Recovery Program, offers an alternative to long-term institutionalization by providing intensive, comprehensive services for clients released from long-term psychiatric hospitalization. Our ICSRP teams work with clients to help them manage their symptoms, integrate with the community, pursue hobbies and education, and re-connect with family and friends. Residents of our ICSRP program live in apartments located in West Seattle and Burien.

In addition to mental health care, residents in our ICSRP program receive medical and dental care through Seattle/King County public health. They can also participate in family therapy, if they wish, with their family of origin. With the support of Navos staff, they follow a fitness program tailored to their needs and have the opportunity to pursue education and find part-time work. Residents also grow their own fruits and vegetables in the ICSRP garden.

Our ICSRP program offers residents culturally specific choices as they pertain to spirituality, religion, grocery shopping, hobbies and more. We also help clients who need it find a support community made up of others who share their culture of choice.

Independence Bridge

Every year in Washington, approximately 35 percent of youth aging out of foster care end up on the street within a year. Independence Bridge is helping to change that. It’s an apartment community housing 24 adults aged 18-25 who are leaving out of foster care, and who could benefit from a safe and respectful community of peers as they establish a strong foundation for their independent adult lives.

The Independence Bridge complex provides daylight-filled common spaces for gathering and growth, including a library, a communal kitchen and living area, and a laundry room. Residents receive critical, individualized support services including:

  • Mental health services
  • Chemical dependency treatment
  • Primary medical care
  • Employment services
  • Educational support
  • Life skills mentoring
  • Financial planning
  • Legal advocacy
  • Peer support
